Saudi Arabia is rapidly integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its education system, using the technology to personalise learning, streamline administration, and improve accessibility in line with its Vision 2030 strategy.
Across the Kingdom, AI tools are transforming how students learn and how teachers engage. Students now benefit from AI-powered platforms that adjust content based on individual learning styles, proficiencies, and pace, while educators are supported with real-time performance data, allowing them to focus more on mentoring than on administrative tasks.
Abdullah Mohammed, a law student at Imam Mohammad ibn Saud Islamic University, said tools like AI tutors and study apps have made learning more efficient and accessible. “These technologies have significantly changed how we study and manage coursework,” he said. “They’ve helped prepare me for the workforce—but they do require careful use to ensure critical thinking isn’t overlooked.”
A Strategic Fit for Vision 2030
Dr Abdulrahman Al-Motrif, Professor of IT and Educational Computing at King Saud University, said AI aligns with the Vision 2030 goals of equity, accessibility, and digital transformation.
“AI enables personalised learning and better resource management while helping bridge education gaps in remote areas and among students with special needs,” he told Arab News.
AI has already been implemented across multiple leading platforms. Classera, for instance, offers an adaptive, gamified learning management system (LMS) for early learners, while Alef Education has reported a 25 per cent boost in student performance after just one semester of AI-supported learning.
Inclusion Through Technology
For students with disabilities, AI is proving transformational. Speech-to-text tools, adaptive interfaces, and screen readers are enabling greater participation. King Saud University has partnered with developers to support visually impaired students through AI-driven audio and text conversion technologies.
“AI has created more interactive, engaging classrooms,” said Al-Motrif. “Immediate feedback and tailored challenges help drive motivation and performance.”
Redefining the Role of Teachers
Platforms like Madrasati now use AI to monitor attendance, track engagement and evaluate academic progress—allowing teachers to focus on pedagogy, mentoring, and emotional support.
“In AI-enabled classrooms, educators become facilitators and human connectors, using AI insights to close learning gaps,” Al-Motrif added.
Challenges and the Road Ahead
Despite the progress, content limitations—particularly the lack of Arabic-language digital resources—remain a barrier. Arabic content comprises only 1.2 per cent of global digital resources. Experts emphasise the need for further investment in content creation, digitisation, and Arabic-focused AI algorithms.
Institutions such as Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University and King Abdulaziz University have already embraced AI-powered learning, resulting in improved retention and satisfaction rates.
These developments point to AI’s role not just as a tool, but as a transformative force capable of delivering inclusive, high-quality, and future-focused education across the Kingdom.
