Saudi Arabia Accelerates Industrial Transformation with AI, IoT & 3D Printing

AI, IoT & 3D Printing - Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia is driving its industrial sector into the future by accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and 3D printing. This initiative is part of a broader national strategy to enhance industrial competitiveness and align with Vision 2030.

The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources is leading efforts to modernise the country’s industrial base through the Future Factories Programme, which aims to convert 4,000 traditional factories into smart, AI-enabled manufacturing plants. AI is being used to improve quality control and productivity, while IoT provides real-time energy management and stronger supply-chain visibility. Meanwhile, 3D printing helps reduce inventory dependence, accelerate prototyping, and shorten supply chains, boosting resilience and innovation.

The transformation is already showing results. Saudi Arabia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) rose by 6.5% in July 2025 compared to the same month last year. The ministry plans to showcase these initiatives at Industrial Transformation Saudi Arabia 2025, taking place from 1 to 3 December 2025 in Riyadh, bringing together global leaders, industry experts, and academic institutions to discuss innovation and skills development.

To support this shift, specialised training programs are being introduced for students, engineers, and technicians to build capabilities in AI, IoT, data analytics, and 3D printing. These efforts align with the National Industrial Strategy, which emphasises both digitisation and talent empowerment as central pillars for modernisation.

Strategic Impact

The industrial transformation is a key component of Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on oil revenues. While challenges remain — including infrastructure costs, workforce reskilling, and data security — the Future Factories Programme offers significant opportunities for investors, technology providers, and startups to collaborate and innovate.

By embracing advanced technologies and upskilling its workforce, Saudi Arabia is accelerating toward a high-tech, globally competitive industrial economy. The transformation of thousands of factories has the potential to reshape not only the Kingdom’s industrial landscape but also its position in the global manufacturing arena.

Looking Ahead

Saudi Arabia’s accelerated push toward AI-driven manufacturing, smart factories, and advanced industrial capabilities signals a defining shift in the Kingdom’s economic trajectory. As global competition intensifies, the integration of cutting-edge technologies and the development of a skilled workforce position Saudi Arabia to lead the region’s next wave of industrial innovation. With Vision 2030 providing the strategic framework, the transformation underway is not only modernising factories but also laying the foundation for a more diversified, resilient, and future-ready industrial economy.
